Care for stroke patients in the region is improving. More and more people go to the stroke and neurology departments, which offer specialized treatment, rather than the internal medicine department. In Vielkopolsk, all 14 hospitals with neurological departments have “shock beds”. In 2020, the Poznan Clinical Hospital performed 210 thrombectomy operations, the most modern method of stroke treatment.
Improving care for stroke patients was one of the WOW NFZs for 2017-2019. During this period, the stroke department was launched at the Medical University in Poznan, the clinical hospital of H. Witzicki , and the neurological department with a stroke department at Pushchikovo Hospital.
Thanks to the joint efforts, every neurological department in Vielkopolsk now has a stroke department, and the UMP Clinical Hospital is implementing a program of treatment of stroke with mechanical thrombectomy. We provide an increasingly high level of care to stroke patients in our region, – says Agnieszka Paczyarts, Director of WOW NFZ. – We constantly monitor the work of individual institutions that treat stroke patients, analyze the data sent to us, consider which entities provide these services better. This will allow us to make decisions that will improve the quality of treatment in Greater Poland.
In 2020, there were 14 military units in Greater Poland. Five of them are in Poznan and one is in Poznan-Poviat. The rest are located in Kalisz, Lesno, Konin and in the following provinces: Gnezno, Novy Tomil, Khrem, Ostrov and Pila.
